Title work: Keep Nature Clean

Medium : Acrylic, oil and dry paint on canvas

Size : 137 cm x 101 cm

Artist :  Rosa Baquero

Keep Nature Clean is a painting which originates from a photo found in the media by another womble artist called Juan Toro. The photo is a portrait of a Womble called Orinoco and in it ‘he’ is saying “KEEP NATURE CLEAN”.

The medium for the artwork is important as its context.  Every time an artist changes perceptions the medium changes too.  In this era the artist is exposed to plenty of circumstances to respond to. In this case humans are over saturated with material they produce and reproduce. We are always making new things and where we replace nature with cement. I identify with Wombles interested in reproducing the image that is online for many reasons: its colour, the message, the character itself.  Orinoco Womble has a special personality that fits with my principles and the way I am as an artist.  We both collect things (sometimes by accident). We are lazy, relaxed, funny, spontaneous and genuine. Maybe as Latin Americans, our heritage is the perfect combination to paint orinoco.

This painting of Orinoco is made from bits of waste paint that I collected from my studio.  I have been recycling paint from my old pallets for around 5 years.  This painting of Orinoco is a collage of that paint.  Using paint that wasn’t originally a success I made the texture and volume that Womble Orinoco deserve.
